1-the muppets

so earlier today went to see the new muppets movie.
i myself havnt seen any of the muppets show, but i have seen several of the other movies, my favorite being the muppets treasure island (if only for the 'cabin fever' song)
so i am familiar with the chracters from my childhood enough to appriciate the humour and feel of a muppets movie
this was, not quite that

before i go on, this wasnt a bad movie, but it had some elements in it that did not jel with the classic muppet feel im used to
namley the main protaganists, gary, mary and walter

gary and walter are brothers and best friends, despite the difference of gary being a boy walter being a puppet (which brings up questions of liniage i dont think we should go into in this review)

walter, being different from others, was given hope and happiness through the form of the muppet show, which he became a devoted fan of

gary and mary(gary's girlfriend)are of to los angeles to celebrate there tenth anniversery together, and gary brings walter to go see the muppets studios, which has been sold of due to its abandonment to tex richman, an evil oil baron who wants to demolish the theatre and studios to drill for oil (cause thats what all oil buissness men do, cause you know, there evil and stuff ?)

walter and gary set out to reunite the muppets, so they can preform a finall show to raise ten million dollars, and save there theater

the plot, albiet basic ,works well, the chracters are as they akways have been, and it was an entertaining film

but, i feel as though the extra characters (walter, gary and mary) were very much intrusive on the feel of the movie, it was more of a 'the muppets, and also these guys which weve sho horned into the plot but could esily be replaced with something alot simpler but we decided against that because . . . shut up' movie instead of 'the muppets' movie

the only redeeming feature of walter and gary was there musical number of 'am i a man or am i a muppet' which was fantastic, mary, im sorry, you have nothing that can redeem you, please leave the movie

the atagonisy, tex richman, was good, but id love to have seen more of him, i think if they had developed him more he would have made more sense the 'i am oil baron millionare, therefore, i must be a douche'
his henchmen puppets were also very entertaining, uncle deadly and bobo the bear

as for the rest of the cast, the muppets, fantastic as always, but i wish they had spent more time on them (the problem being the first fifteen minutes being spent on walter and co instead of them

there were also many celebrity cameos, including micky rooney, selena gomez, neil patrick harris, david grohl, jim parsons, zach galifiakis, jack black, whoopie goldberg and may others, again, all amazing

the music was somewhat hit and miss, the muppets songs were generally good, but it was the opening sequence and marys song that let the music down from my memory
also, some of the transitions between scenes and cuts were a little to quick, sometimes delaying ones ubderstanding of a joke why they try to get over visual whiplash

really, what let this movie down was the focus on the wrong protagonists, even if they were really only there as a catalyst to the story, they distracted from the muppets

other then that, a great film, deffinatly worth checking out,for nostalgias sake
i give it 4 out of 5 stars

until next time, orangeblur out

*a word of warning, for those allergic to unprompted spontainious musical numbers, i would advise you to be cautious with this movie, as it does tend to happen, frequently
